(no subject)

The end of 2009. The challenge, think of the things that made me happy this year. In looking at it, it doesn't seem like much, but, they don't need to be. That they made me happy is all that matters.

  • Supernatural: The Monster at the End of This Book

  • "I'm the Prophet Chuck." Why hello Jensen, Misha, Jared! Hello Supernatural. Why was I avoiding you? Silly me. It only took me 4-1/2 years.

  • Dragon*con

  • Joe! Ben! Jason! Claudia! Rachel!

  • ipod Touch

  • It is a gift that keeps on giving. Thank you again for this gift! You know who I mean.

  • Los Angeles

  • Far more fun than I ever expected

  • Seagate FreeAgent drive

  • Memory. Technology. Heaven

  • Stargate Atlantis: Vegas

  • SGA could be something different and special.

  • Friday night movie night

  • A weekly journey with my brother and sister-in-law. We've each discovered new things.

  • Overturned insurance surcharge

  • Go me!

  • Visits with friends, old (Ginger) and less old (Sandra)

  • One I've known for 40+ years. The other, 10 years? Each are generous in ways for which I can't possibly be thankful enough. Still, thank you.

  • Brooklyn

  • Fabulous company. Fascinating town. My feet were glad to rest.

Supernatural 5x10: Abandon All Hope

Supernatural and A Christmas Carol

I didn't like "A Christmas Carol." It could be that after all these years, the story just doesn't stand up or it could be the failure of the interpretation. I hate the animation style (it's creepy) and I hate the endless scenes that only exist to show off the special effects and 3D and I hate a story that interprets the moral of the story to be "money is what Christmas is all about." Because, you know, I saw a Scrooge who learned that Christmas is about spending money.

As for Supernatural? This week? This will be a good week to avoid all other journals and comments that talk about 5x09 because I'd like to keep to my SPN happy place. )

Happy things

Saturday was chili cookoff day to benefit a local library. Four vegetarian chilis were available, so I had more of a variety this year to test. Three were yummy, one was a questionable green with okra in it.

Friday, Suzanne Vega performed at the Sanders Theater in Cambridge. The theater is lovely but the seating was tight and the performance, while good, was very short for the cost. Still, it was good to get out and the visit to the bookstore prior was fun.

Thursday, episode 5x08 (Changing Channels) aired and since then, random giggling has occurred. Sure, I've had some meta thoughts about Castiel as the only angel we've seen with faith and about whether or not the angels are appearing a bit too human. However, the giggling wins this weeks with "Should I honk?" and Dr. Sexy and "I say...jackpot."

Satan Causes Parkinson's Disease. News at 10

My aunt, one of the most caring and nurturing persons I know, was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. This on top of the possible Alzheimer's and her husband being diagnosed with some rare kidney disease. Honestly, I've never met a more generous soul than my aunt. My mom visited her this weekend and learned that a long time friend who apparently has in the last year rediscovered God, tried to get my aunt to join her church. When my aunt declined, saying she has her own faith, the 'friend' told her that Satan is making her sick and that her lack of faith is why God wasn't helping her.

In the 21st century.

Satan is making her sick.

People really believe that?

I am dumbfounded. Angry, too, that anyone could believe that the illness is the fault of the victim. Perhaps it struck closer to home than usual because of something a friend asked me about my Rheumatoid Arthritis last week, but really, compassion might be more welcome than judgment there. My poor aunt.

Since that declaration, the 'friend' hasn't been in contact since.
